Brief: Lee and Dewees win no. 3 doubles consolation at Santa Catalina Tournament

Varsity girls’ tennis had a strong showing at the 2012 Santa Catalina Tournament near Monterey, Calif. despite not having its no.1 and 2 singles players, Aashli Budhiraja (’14) and Felicia Wang (’14).

No. 3 singles player Sammy Solomon (’13) instead took up the no. 1 single spot in the tournament, losing her consolation finals match 2-6, 0-6.

Teammates Madeline Lee (’14) and Sam Dewees (’14) won their no. 3 doubles consolation finals match, while Tiffany Nguyen (’13) and Julianne Lee (’14) lost their no. 1 doubles finals match.

The team will next play against Sacred Heart Preparatory at Sacred Heart on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 3:30 p.m..

Hilda Huang is a senior and joined The Viking in her junior year because of her love for athletics. After serving as a copy editor her junior year, she is now a Business Manager along with fellow Viking Michael Strong. Huang dove varsity for the Swimming and Diving team and was a part of the gymnastics team her sophomore year, but was unable to compete due to injury.
