Our Paly Vikings blew the Santa Teresa Saints out of the water on Monday afternoon at home leaving the score 5-2.

Both teams started the game out strong leaving the first inning ties at 0-0, but Paly gained momentum in the second inning and Ethan Stern (‘17) hit the ball into outfield, allowing Angus Stayte (‘17) to score the Vikings their first run of the game.

Soon after our first run, Max Jung-Goldberg (‘18) hit a double to outfield giving Stern the opportunity to score the Vikings our second run of the game.

“I think what helped us the most this game was our confidence. We went into the game feeling pretty confident which paid off in the long-run,” Jake Varner (‘18) said.

At the bottom of the fourth inning, Lawrence Han (‘16) nailed one to left field, advancing Jung-Goldberg to home plate and the Vikings up 3-0.

Unfortunately, The Saints scored two runs in the fifth inning, leaving the score 3-1, but Stayte came back strong with a hard double down center field, advancing Justin Hull (‘16) to home plate, bringing the score to 4-2.

Ben Cleasby (‘16) swung the bat, shooting the ball to outfield allowing Stayte to score and Stern to move to third base, leaving the score at 5-2.

“Our teamwork carried us through this game. We really worked together and that is what helped us win this game, not just one individual person,” Varner said.

The game ended after The Saints finished out the seventh inning, but since the Vikings were already ahead, the bottom of the seventh was not played.

This non-league game brought the Vikings’ overall standings to 5-1-1.

The Viking’s next game will be a league game at home at Palo Alto High School on Tuesday March 15 at 4:00 pm against Cupertino.
