Boys’ tennis vs. Monta Vista preview

Phillip Ericsson

The Boys Tennis Team are preparing to take on Monta Vista High School Friday at home. The team has a record of 6-10 with matches against Sacred Heart and Monta Vista left in the season, and will be competing in the SCVAL Championship game.

The championship game will be comprised of three singles as well as four doubles matches. Exhibition matches will also be played, but the exhibition matches do not count towards the final result. The final result is decided by the total number of singles and doubles matches won by each school.

The tennis team is coming off of three straight losses against Homestead, Gunn, and Saratoga in the past week. They will be looking to improve on their form as there are only two matchups left in the season before the SCVAL Championships.

In the last matchup against Gunn High School, Shiv Matta (‘16) played singles one and defeated his Gunn opponent Rao, 7-6 (6), 4-6, 10-4. Noah Galper (‘17) and Adrian Smith (‘17) also played singles in the last matchup against Gunn. Noah Galper lost his last matchup, 6-0, 6-1, but Adrian Smith defeated his last opponent 6-4, 5-7, (7-8 ret).

Matta (‘16), Galper (‘17), and Smith (‘17) will need strong performances against Monta Vista for Paly to take home the victory.

The matches will be played at home at Paly, and the starting time is set for 3:30 p.m.
