Paly Golf continues impressive season with 191-208 victory over Los Altos

The Palo Alto Varsity golf team beat Los Altos, 191-208, at Palo Alto Municipal Golf Course today. This match marked the Vikings’ second victory against Los Altos, having beat the Eagles 195-225 in their first meeting.

Grant Raffel (’13) shot Palo Alto’s lowest score with a 34.

“Grant played very well today,” Sam Niethammer (’14) said. ” He made very little mistakes and came away with a great round.”

Niethammer also had a solid day, recording an even par 36. He began his round two strokes under par until the eighth hole, where he shot a triple bogey.

“I had a great round going,” Niethammer said. “I had a terrible eighth hole but bounced back with a birdie on nine.”

The Vikings are currently undefeated, having won their first six league matches of the season. Niethammer attributes this to the addition of freshmen Alex Hwang and John Knowles, as well as the team’s off season improvement.

“Our team this year is by far better than last year,” Niethammer said. “We have very high expectations and look to do big things in the league tournament and later on in CCS.”

Palo Alto will match up against Cupertino this Thursday at 2:30 at Palo Alto Municipal Golf Course.
