Brief: Girls’ track and field defeats Lynbrook

The girls’ track and field team defeated Lynbrook at home, 76-51.

The Lady Vikes got out to a early lead, winning the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 50.25 seconds.

Katy Foug (‘15) added five more points for the Vikes, after finishing first in the 1600 meter run in 5:19.84 minutes. Torie Nielson (‘11) and Pippa Raffel (‘14) placed first and second in the 100 meter dash with times of 13.27 and 13.31 seconds, respectively.

The Lady Vikes picked up more points in the 800 meter run, with Audrey DeBruine (‘14) winning with a time of 2:29.96, and Maryssa Sklaroff (‘13) taking third with a 2:37.77.

The hurdles crew helped widen the lead, sweeping the 300 meter hurdles. Foug placed first with a 51.83, followed by Nora Carlson-Strom’s (‘13) 52.06, and rounding out the sweep was AnaCena Zander (‘12) with a 53.46. Chika Kasahara (‘13) came in second in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:23.75.

The strong performances in the field events helped seal the Vikings win. Raffel and Nielson took first and second in the long jump with jumps of 15’ 3.5” and 15’ 3” feet, respectively. In the triple jump, Raffel and Nielson once again placed first and second, with jumps of 32’ 2.75” and 30’ 4” feet, respectively.

The dominance in the jumps continued with a sweep in the high jump. Anna Dukovic (‘15) placed first with a jump of 4’ 8”, and Lindsay Black (‘12) and Danielle Palmer (‘14) took second and third with jumps of 4’ 6”.

In the shot put, Black finished first with a throw of 34’ 7” feet, and Palmer took third with a throw of 24’ 5” feet. In the discus throw, Palmer won with a toss of 87’ 6” feet, while Black earned third with a throw going 80’ 5” feet.

The Vikings will race cross-town rival Gunn high school next Thurs. 19 at the Gunn field.
