After starting the season 0-4 the Palo Alto boys baseball team is starting to climb back into league contention. The vikings improve to (4-2) in league play and (6-6) overall.

As the game commenced Brian Kannappan (‘14) took the mound. The first batter hit a soft ground ball to second base and Anthony Lim bobbled it and couldn’t make the throw on time to first. It appeared like it was going to be another one of those games for the Vikings the next batter hit a single, the a sac bunt advanced both runners.

With one out and runners on third and second Los Altos High was in position to score. The clean- up hitter hit a fly ball to left field and the runner tagged from third for an easy score. Despite the early run Kannappan got the next two batters to ground. Moving on from the first inning with minimal damage.

The first three batters into the box for Paly went down one, two, three. Paly was no-hit last friday versus league opponent Wilcox. The last thing they needed was another offensive struggle. However in the second they rallied and scored six runs of the Los Altos starter.

“We came out swinging today, we were putting the ball in play and putting pressure on the defense” Chris Smith (‘14) said.

After two innings the score was 6-1 and Paly was looking strong with solid pitching and quality at bats.

“We were more aggressive and we had our heads in the game, thats something we just didn’t do against Wilcox” Smith said.

After jumping out to an early lead Paly keep playing despite giving up one run in the third inning to Los Altos Paly was lock down the rest of the game.

“I like how he kept our foot on the gas and kept playing hard till the game was over” Smith said. With another run coming in the 4th with Jack cleasby scoring on an error by Los Altos Paly was completely in control of the game.

Tough Paly didn’t score for the next two innings their defense was stellar and kept Los Altos of the scoreboard for the remaining 4 innings of the game.

“It was a great win we played as a team and it was a complete win, we played all seven innings” Smith said. “I’m hoping we keep our momentum moving into friday’s game and go into spring break on a streak” Smith said.

This win puts the Vikings to a league record of 3-2 they have another game on Friday in Los Altos.
