Paly boys’ lacrosse triumphed over Mountain View in their senior night game with a  final score of 12-3.

Mountain View came in strong to the first period and scored twice before Paly had even entered their offensive half.

The Vikings midfield and attack used strong and composed stick skills to set themselves up for scoring opportunities which eventually paid off with a goal by Matthew Seligson (’16).

“Coming out more focused in the first quarter is something we need to work on as a group,” Coach DJ Shelton said. “Making sure we take warm ups seriously and we come out strong.”

The second period began with a goal by Cole Tierney (’16) into the bottom right of the goal. Michael Beisheim (’15) then scored with 6:50 left in the period to put the Vikings in the lead for the first time in the night.

Tierney then earned his second goal of the with a jumping shot from the 6 meter mark. Ariya Momeny (’16) then made the score 5-2 with a goal at 3:44 in the second period.

Midfielder Zach Levitan (’15) then increased the Vikings lead late in the second period which made the score 6-2 at the half.

“Clearing and riding was the strongest aspect of our play tonight,” Tierney said. “We were able to keep the ball on offense with the ride and our defense really stepped up and played well tonight.”

The score remained the same for the majority of the third period with the only shift being a goal by Mountain View which was later retaliated by Levitan which made the score 7-3 with 5:50 remaining in the period.

Tierney then clenched his hat trick for the night with a lefty shot from the crease. Senior Scott Andrews (’15) then scored with a  quick shot into the side netting. Andrews was followed by Tierney once again which made the score 10-3.

The Vikings remained in control of the game having had nearly double the shots of Mountain View with only 5:17 left to play.

“This really sets the tone for us going into playoffs,” Beisheim said. “We’ve come back and beat all the top teams in our league which has been a huge accomplishment.”

Owen Staiger (’15) and MacClean Mansfield (’15) then scored the Vikings final goals of the night back to back to make the final score 12-3.

“This is the seventh game in a row that the team has come out really strong,” Shelton said. “It makes it even more special that this was their senior night.”

The team will go on to play on May 13th in the SCVAL semi-final match, location to be announced.
