The Viking boys’ soccer team defeated Los Altos High School 3-0 in an entertaining match yesterday afternoon.

The first few minutes were represented by complete control by the Vikes, and it took no longer than seven minutes to find a breakthrough.

Jason Shorin (‘19) played a slicing through ball through the Los Altos defense which landed perfectly at the feet of Captain Neil Verwillow (‘17) who, like any classic striker, simply took it around the keeper and passed it into the net to give the Vikes an early lead.

The Vikes never looked back after that as they displayed dominance in the midfield, holding a solid back line and even created a few chances in the offensive third of the pitch.

The only convincing attack Los Altos had the entire game was a through ball which reached the Los Altos striker, who then placed it in the back of the net. However, the linesman raised his flag for offside, canceling the goal.

“We’re just focusing on one game at a time right now,” said Matt Knowles (‘18). “We played well, but we can’t linger on this win.”

With continued pressure, the Vikes were able to strike again in the second half, when Verwillow tacked on his second of the game, and Marco Tan (‘17) finished Los Altos off with the third.

“It does feel satisfying to get back on track,” said Verwillow. “ I think if we can keep playing well then the wins will follow.
