The Viking girls’ soccer team outlasted league foe Mountain View Tuesday afternoon, going on to win 2-0

The Vikings ruled the entire first half, keeping most of the possession and not allowing Mountain View into their half of the pitch. However, the Viking’s complete control of the field did not translate into opportunities in front of goal for a majority of the first half.

The first serious chance the Vikings had went straight into the back of the net. In the 38th minute, center-defender Lauola Amanoni (‘17) received the ball well inside the Viking half of the pitch. Amanoni ran past multiple defenders and hit a beautiful chip right over the keeper’s head and into the back of the net.

Not long after, in the 40th minute, the Vikings were able to pull further ahead and never look back. Chloe Japic (‘20) hit an absolute screamer from outside the box, right into the top corner.

The second half was played mostly in the middle of the pitch, with neither side being able to break through the other’s defense. The Paly back line played solid the entire match, with Mountain View not getting close to the goal on any occasion.

“It feels great to get the result we have worked all season to achieve,” said Ally Scheve (‘18). “Every girl really played their heart out today and it was awesome to be able to get the result.”
