Oh my goodness, I can’t believe what I am wearing!  Looking down at my outfit before soccer practice I am nauseated, but it is too late to change.  Today I am stepping onto the field sporting colors resembling Christmas decorations on the top half and an American flag from the waist down in addition to my bright Nike cleats.  The red, green, blue, white, and neon orange clash loudly making my eyes hurt.  Even worse, my sister who is sitting next to me on my way to soccer, has managed to fit all the colors of the rainbow into one terrible outfit.

I love clothes and when it comes to sports I am no different.

Rarely do I throw on sports clothes without deliberation (and I hope you don’t either or I might close my eyes to avoid an oncoming headache due to your wardrobe disaster) I find fashion as a whole, absolutely fascinating.  Everyday I look forward to rummaging through my closet to find the perfect outfit.  Throughout this daily routine, picking out athletic wear is nothing short of my highlight.  Style and sports in one activity – what could be better!

The greatest challenge in deciding what to wear to practice is finding a balance of having everything match without matching too much (and trust me there is a thin line between the two).  Some people can totally pull off the perfectly matching sportswear from head to toe.  I wish I could pull of swag like that, but like most people I can’t.  So in order to keep everyone’s humiliation at a manageable level, it would be wise for us all to restrain from overly matching outfits.  Instead, I find my happy medium.  This consists of wearing Nike shorts and high socks with a basic white v-neck shirt.

I am always, always wearing high socks.  Nike high socks are a go to athletic wear necessity, specifically Black Nike socks. However, black Nike socks only come in a Men’s large.  I scrunch the extra fabric in the front of my toes to make them fit just right.  Even though this may be bothersome to my feet, this is a price I must pay to look fabulous on the field!  On the other hand, Under Armour socks can look pretty legit.  When walking into a tryout the most intimidating athlete is always seen wearing black Under Armour socks.  However, the quality of the Under Armour sock is terrible.  So, when I am shopping at Sports Authority (which is a regular for me because they have unbeatable sales) I shut my eyes to avoid the temptation to buy Under Armour socks.  In my experience, after just a few washes they pill like nothing I have ever seen before.  Therefore, Nike socks remain supreme in my book.  When I put them on, I make sure to align the Nike swoosh on the socks with the swoosh on my favorite cleats to add an extra swaggy touch on an already outstanding outfit.

Next I pull out the classic Nike shorts, which comes in an array of colors and a white Hanes v-neck or lax penny.  Whenever my outfit is looking a bit blah I pull out the big guns (also known as my neon pink Target sports bra) and trust me this “minor” accessory can create a great wow factor causing jaws (of super fashionable athletes) to drop instantly!  Even sports fashionitsta and Team USA soccer prodigy Alex Morgan was sporting a neon pink sports bra in the world cup final (and I could never forget to mention that Morgan was wearing hot pink hair accessories to compliment the sports bra)!

If swagalicous athletic wear had a direct affect on playing style, I would be one of the best athletes in the world (or at least I would like to think so).   But sadly, it isn’t.  Even if your great looks to practice may not lead to a win, at least you can walk off the field looking good and strutting your stuff!
