After falling short of advancing to the Central Section Championships (CCS) last year with a league record of 4-12, the girls’ water polo team hopes to improve and make it to CCS this year.

With the loss of key senior players Hannah Bundy (‘14) and  Emma Wolfe (‘14) the team looks to new players to lead their team to CCS.

“Our main goals are to become a cohesive team that can work together and to qualify for CCS,” captain Olivia Vort (‘15) said.

Gigi Rojahn (‘16) agrees with Vort and also hopes to make it to CCS.

“Last year our team was really young and because most of us played together last year so we have a good chance for doing well this season and hopefully making it to CCS,” Rojahn said.

Senior captains Vort (‘15), Olivia Scola (‘15), Maddie Kinnaman (‘15) and Tess van Hulsen (‘15) have high hopes for the team this upcoming year and they plan on working together and utilizing each other’s strengths.

“Each player has a different skill set that they are very good at. We don’t just have a few players who are extremely good and carry the whole team,” Vort said.

The players are excited about their captains this year and feel as though they can help to bring the team together.

“The captains this year are all really well-rounded and so supportive and helpful in all aspects,” Rojahn said.

The girls are looking forward to playing Los Altos after falling to Los Altos in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League (SCVAL) tournament.  They are also hoping to pull some wins against cross-town rival Gunn with the help of their newly acquired skillsets as a team.

The girls are excited about this upcoming season and their potential as a team.

“I’m really looking forward to bonding and improving as a team,” Rojahn said.

The Lady Vikes will face off with Homestead for their season opener on September 16th at 6:45 p.m. at Homestead.
