Paly Girls Water Polo Defeat Lynbrook in League Opener, 9-3

Palys girls water polo team triumphed over Lynbrook 9-3 in their first league home game held at Gunn High School.

Paly started the game off with strong defensive play by holding Lynbrook to two goals at the half. The offense was led by Gigi Rojahn (‘16) who had three goals giving the team a 4-2 lead by halftime.

The girls then went on a streak of poor play during the third quarter, this could be attributed to a tournament they had this past weekend.

“We were tired from a long weekend of games,” Haley Chalmers (‘17) said.

Despite being tired, the vikings picked their game up by adding four goals in the fourth to close the game 9-3. In the end the team looks to improve their passing game, and continue to work on controlling their pace of play.

“As a team we need to be more fluid and on the same page,” Rojahn said, “We also need to be more crisp during our passing and shooting drills during practice.”

The team also now has to have their home games at Gunn High School instead of at Paly due to gym construction making the players feel like they don’t even have home games this year.

“It’s inconvenient [having to play at Gunn] because our practices are pretty late and it’s a pain going all the way to Gunn everyday. For games it’s not too bad it just feels like we always have away games,” Chalmers said.

The team will face Los Gatos next on Thursday at 6:30 at Los Gatos.
