The Lady Viking sweeps rival Gunn in three straight sets, from an outstanding performance by Chelsea Fan (‘18).  The Lady Vikes dominated the first set 25-12 with Fiona Green (‘17), Claire Dennis (‘16,) and Chelsea Fan, each contributing multiple kills in the set.

In the second set, the Vikings began with a rough start, losing the first three points.  They rebounded on a 8-1 run led by two kills from Fan.  However, the momentum faltered for a moment, with a strong Titan comeback.  After a team timeout, the Lady Vikes regained their momentum and won the set.  Chelsea Fan contributed four spikes in their last 9 points of the set.

“We were talking about our serves and making sure that we were passing well [in the timeout].  We were a little off balance.  Luckily, we picked it back up and had a strong finish,” Coach Jekara Wilson said.

After the slow second set, the Vikings won the final set 25-21.  Fan led the team in kills, and helped spark the team in their victory.

“Chelsea is always consistent we can always go to her, especially when we are down.  In any oppurtunity getting the ball to chelsea is a really smart move,” Dennis said.

Most of the Vikings momentum was lost due to poor serves, which many Viking players attributed as the one thing they need to work on most.

“I think we were pretty focused today and that really helped [us win].  However, we really need to work on serving.  We made a lot of serving errors and that is what allowed Gunn back in the game.”
