Girls Tennis Falls to Saratoga 4-3

The Lady Vikes suffered a close loss to the Saratoga Falcons this afternoon after coming up short 4-3. The girls’ overall record for the season is still an impressive 7-5, but this latest defeat brought their league record to a losing 2-3.

Maddi Page (‘21) and Anya Yakimento (‘21) both played strong singles matches, with Page coming out on top after long three sets and Yakimento claiming victory after just two.

“Our number one player, Maddi, had a great match and she pulled out a third set for the first time this year,” Coach Andy Harader said.

Both Issa Cosio (‘19) and Myra Xu (‘21)  fell in just two sets to their Falcon opponents, making the following doubles rounds of higher importance.

Sadly for the Vikings, Claire Li (‘21) and Rachel Owens (‘21) were the only pair to come out on top of their doubles match, doing so in three sets. The two other doubles pairs, one of which being senior pair Mailinh Truong (‘18) and Emma Cockerell (‘18), lost in a close three sets each to their respective opponents.

“They were all really close… I was happy with the performance,” Harader remarked when asked about the team’s play.

The Lady Vikes hope to redeem themselves in their upcoming away game against Castilleja on October 2 at 4:00.
