Girls Volleyball Sweeps Los Gatos

There’s nothing like a clean sweep against a rival team to get fans hyped up. Paly students and parents turned out to watch the Girls Varsity Volleyball team annihilate their biggest rivals, the Los Gatos Cats, on Tuesday night, October 15th. The high-energy crowd passed on their energy to the team as they watched the Paly girls sweep the Cats in three strong back-and-forth matches.

The strong offensive game was a highlight of this matchup; Paly girls had dozens of kills throughout the match, giving them the upper hand they needed to overpower their opponents.

Unfortunately, the game was rife with questionable calls from the ref. Poor out of bounds calls and net calls riled up the crowd and posed a challenge for the girls team.

Paly and Gatos were neck-and-neck throughout the first set, with the tension reaching its peak near the end of the match when the girls were tied 18-18. A kill from the Vikings pulled the team into the lead and thankfully, the Vikes pulled through to win 25-21.

The girls dominated the second set. While they started off close, tying at 12 points, the girls built a lead and kept it, taking them to a win 25-23 over the Cats.

Yet again, the girls pulled through strong in the third and final set to clean up against Los Gatos. The match was highlighted by a great save by Amelia Vugrincic (‘20) who dove in to save the ball from flying out of bounds. Matching their earlier score against Gatos, the girls team won their third set 25-23.

Next up on the Girls Volleyball schedule is a conference game at Los Altos at 6:45 on Thursday October 17th. To catch them at home, fans can watch the Vikes play against their cross-town rivals Gunn High School at 6:45pm on October 24th.
