On Saturday, March 6th, the girls and boys cross country teams put together a dominant performance against Homestead high school, winning by a wide margin on both sides.

On the boy’s side, the Vikings’ top nine runners beat out all of the Homestead athletes. This translates to a perfect score of 15 for Paly vs 45 for Homestead, where the score represents the sum of the places for the top five runners. The girls won places one through four and five through eight, resulting in a total score of 16 vs Homestead’s 43.

The win was underscored by great performances by underclassmen Grant Morgenfeld (’24) and Elizabeth Fetter (’23), who finished first against Homestead in the boys and girls divisions, respectively. For the 2.2 mile race, Morgenfeld finished with a time of 11:04.0 (5:01 per mile) and Fetter finished in 12:46.9 (5:48 per mile).

The boy’s team adds this win to their undefeated season, making that their third straight. The win marks the first for the girl’s team this season, which has struggled with depth this season despite a strong top-end with Fetter and Hillary Studdert (’23).

“It was great to finally match the boys in winning a meet,” Fetter said. “This season we’ve been missing people for various reasons, myself included, so this meet felt like the first time the girls team has been complete.”

As a Season 1 sport, the Vikings have one meet remaining at Gunn on March 20th. It’s been great to see our athletes back in action, and both the boys and girls will hope to continue to assert themselves as the top school in SCVAL.
