During this past week, the girls golf team successfully ranked second place at the States Championship with a score of 382, which wrapped up the fall season.

“We were able to edge out one of our biggest competitors to claim the runner-up trophy,” Sydney Sung (‘22) said.

The team was very proud of beating their rivals, Valley Christian, who scored a 388.

“We went into it not expecting anything and just wanting to play well,” Sung said.

The golf team is no stranger to success. The team won States in 2019 and since then, have been working hard to maintain their success. Their perseverance is to be reveled at—no matter if they lost or won, the team ensured to work hard and improve for each game.

Throughout the season, there were multiple games where the team would not have won without team member(s) coming in clutch and achieving the least amount of shots for the team.

“The improvement over the season and during the post-season tournaments was very impressive,” Sung said. “I’m especially proud of our juniors and sophomores who were able to pull out all of the skills they learned throughout their time on the team and pull through in the end.”

Even though the team was really excited to do well at States, they were sad to send off their seniors.

“After finishing my round, it finally hit me that it was the last time I would be able to compete on this team, which was a really sad thought, but it was a great way to end my last season on the team,” Sung said.

The seniors have been bittersweet—proud that they finished their last season strong, but sad they are leaving their positions on the team. Seniors Sydney Sung and Lauren Sung have both committed to the University of Michigan for golf and are looking forward to starting a new chapter in their golf careers.

“I’m so excited to start playing college golf,” Sung said. “Michigan has a great growth program and I can’t wait to see my game get to the next level with the amazing coaches and facilities!”

Like the Sung sisters, all the seniors are looking forward to what they will do in the future and trust the underclassmen and juniors to work hard and achieve success in next year’s season.

“I hope everyone on the team just continues to have fun with the game and keep working hard,” Sung said.
