Training trip to Italy. Frequent summer practices. Fresh talent on the team. These are a few things the Paly girls water polo are excited to utilize this season.

Following a rough season finishing 7th in the SCVAL, the Paly girls water polo team has been working hard preparing for the upcoming season. The first official game is on September 7th against Homestead, whom they beat handily last season with a score of 16-1.

This summer, many returning players of the team, as well as two incoming freshmen took a trip to Camogi, Italy, where they had the opportunity to train and play against competitive Italian teams. The schedule included practices in the morning and games in the evening. Senior captain Sami Lee was one of the team members that attended.

“It was a great opportunity even though the teams were much higher level and had a very different style of play there” Lee said.

Following a disappointing first round loss in the CCS tournament last year, the team hopes to improve their performance this year.

“I am really excited to hopefully qualify for CCS and see how far we can go” Lee said.

Amongst several improvements they hope to make this year, the team hopes to utilize their younger players more. Senior captain Paige Henry is looking forward to getting to know the group more.

“This season I am excited to really advance the lower classmen. I think it is really beneficial that they will be able to develop them as the season goes on,” Henry said.

With the upcoming season, the girls are motivated to not only improve individually, but to grow as a team. Their connection will be crucial to their success throughout the season.

“We are definitely improving our team dynamic. I think overall our team this year has a really positive attitude.”
