Paly Field Hockey beats Cupertino 1-0

Paly varsity field hockey defeated Cupertino today with a final score of 1-0. Despite being in the midst of a heatwave, the team came out with high intensity and a hunger to win.

“Our ability to come out, win, and work as a team in this heat sets a standard for us we continue to strive and beat,” midfielder Ella Bishop (‘24) said. “We’ve seen what our team is succeeding at and more importantly where we need to continue to work.”

The girls played seamlessly and kept their energy up throughout the whole game. Their communication and abilities to work together as one on the field are impressive, to say the least.

“We worked super hard on the field today and that hard work paid off,” forward Poppy Barclay (‘25) said. “As we head into our next games we’ll be sure to come in with the same amount of hussle, especially as we face more difficult opponents.”

The one and only goal scored in the game was by center midfielder Miya Joshi (‘24) who was proud of the way the team played today.

“Unfortunately, we had to cancel our practice yesterday due to the heat, so when it came to game day today, we hadn’t practiced in a while,” Joshi said. “Regardless, we all hustled to every ball and really wanted the win!”

Although they are two-for-two at the moment, the team cannot get too comfortable in their position. Bishop, like the rest of the team, hopes to maintain their streak throughout this season.

“With two wins under our belt to start the season we are hoping to keep that momentum moving!” Bishop said.
