Paly girls water polo made program history beating Castilleja 6-4 for the first time ever Thursday night.

After narrowly falling to Castilleja 6-7 the previous matchup, the Vikings entered the game looking to come back and redeem themselves.

“They’ve historically been a very strong team, qualifying for Open division the last few years,” said senior Paige Henry. “Never in program history have we beat them before, so this was a very rewarding game.”

The Vikings were down 1-3 at the end of the first quarter but did not allow the score to get them down.

“We certainly competed with them and it was close,” senior captain Sami Lee said.

With the game tied at halftime, Paly entered the second half ready to take back the lead. With two goals by freshman Fallon Porter and a goal by Henry, the Vikings were able to successfully secure the lead.

“We had insane team defense tonight,” said Henry. “They were forced to shift their offense multiple times as our defense was impenetrable.”

The team played as a cohesive unit tonight and was able to improve on mistakes made after falling to Harker the previous Tuesday.

“We did all the things we’ve been working on and I was really proud to see all our hard work come together in such a great game and get that historic win,” Lee said.

The team looks forward to taking this winning momentum towards playing Homestead at home next Tuesday.
