The Paly girls waterpolo team defeated Los Altos in double overtime by a score of 6-5 Thursday night.

Close to the end of the double overtime, it looked like a third was likely. Both teams continued to fight relentlessly up and down the pool, with Los Altos having possession in the beginning of the last minute. Missing their opportunity, the Vikings had the final possession. The ball made its way up the pool and into junior Grace Gormley’s hands, who scored the game winning goal.

“It was kind of a surreal moment. I was waiting for the clock to run down to the final second and I fired it away. It was super satisfying to see if hit the back of the net after that really tough, long game,” Gormley said.

Focusing in each quarter, the team played hard buzzer to buzzer.

“As a team we did a good job of not giving into the pressure and that really led us to success in the end,” junior Mary Henderson said. “I am really happy about how intense we played till the last second.”

This being their third league win in a row, the team is moving up in the league standings, with championship season fast approaching.
