The Paly football team fell to Santa Teresa 30-20 at Palo Alto High School on Friday night in the CIF Regional Championships, ending their CCS winning season.
The game was tight throughout, with Paly holding a 13-10 lead going into halftime.
In his last game as a Viking, Jack Newman (‘23) starred, making impressive plays on each side of the ball, both as a running back and a linebacker.
The second half was tight as well, with multiple lead changes, but the Vikings fell just short.
“We were definitely capable of beating that team,” wide receiver Jason Auzenne (’24) said. “We had unnecessary penalties that kept us from winning the game,” Auzenne said.
Paly looks back on their successful season, after overcoming a disappointing 1-6 start.
“Our team is proud of our season,” safety Rocky Leitch (‘23) said. “After going 1-6 in the first seven games we never would’ve expected winning a CCS championship,” Leitch said.
With a new coach, things started off rough for Paly, but the team rallied around the culture that coach David Degeronimo established over the course of the season.
“As the season progressed, we started to come together as a team and were able to build a stronger connection with the coaches,” Leitch said.
