Paly girls water polo fell to crosstown rival Gunn by a score of 10-7 Thursday night.

The highly anticipated game did not disappoint— both teams got off to a strong start, with the Vikings trailing at half time. Some key goals by senior captain Sami Lee helped bring Paly some momentum in the third and fourth quarter, but Gunn would not relent.

“I’m really proud of us for fighting until the end and I don’t think we’ve played Gunn to that close of a game in many years,” Sami Lee said.

The loss left the team understandably upset, but they are focused on the rematch, which will be contested October 13th at home.

“We haven’t beat them in ten years, but this is the year I can feel it,” Lee said.

Missing starters, the Pay team had to adapt to the strong offense and defense Gunn boasts.

“We didn’t have an ideal situation this game so it was pretty upsetting to lose to them, but we’re ready to come back stronger next time,” junior captain Eliza Gaither said.
