Baylands Cross Country Meet

The closest you can get to a home cross country meet.

Paly Varsity Cross Country battled through a harsh meet at Sunnyvale Baylands on Tuesday, September 21. The conditions were brutal, but the excitement stayed true for their home opener.

Varsity Girls had a very strong showing as our own Viking Staff Member Lizzy Fetter finished second overall in a very tight, photo finish ending. As well as Hillary Studdert placing 5th overall, another Paly Junior. Boys B Varsity also took home some glory as they swept spots 1-7. It was a team effort as they were able to beat Mountain View by a tally of 50-70.

The conditions of the race took all of the athletes by surprise as the heat and wind grew as the race continued. Two of our Paly athletes went down with heat related issues as one was forced to stop running.

The team knew they had to battle to place well and the team is proud of what they were able to accomplish.

“Circumstances considered, this was a solid opener. Nearly half our expected varsity team had some sort of setback that kept them from being at 100%,” Jimmy Miller said. “There were a lot of notable performances.”

Grant Morgenfeld was one of those performances. Morgenfeld came off really strong and fast and was able to finish 2nd overall, first for Paly.

The season is at its beginning, but the cross country team is already starting to get it’s stride.

“There’s work to do to secure a deep postseason run, but a great outing for the team as a whole,” Jimmy Miller said. “We are hungry.”
