Paly Cross Country had an exceptionally strong performance at the CCS championships today, with strong individual performances and high overall finishes in the team standings, despite some challenges.

With a final point total of 52, Paly girls finished in second place for the team standings, falling short to first place Los Altos who had a point total of 46. They will be competing at the State meet next Saturday.

The top three Paly girls were sophomore Kinga Czajkowska, and Seniors Elizabeth Fetter and Hillary Studdert, who placed third, fourth, and seventh, respectively. Czajkowska and Fetter both ran under 18-minutes (17:36 and 17:48) and had the third-fastest and fifth-fastest races overall on the course for the day.

“It was an incredible way to have my last race ever on Crystal,” fetter said. “I am happy not only with my own performance but with how well our team did. I can’t wait for the state meet next weekend.”

Paly boys finished in fifth place with a final point total of 164. Junior Grant Morgenfeld had another strong performance finishing in first for his division. Morgenfeld ran the 2.95 mile course with a time of 14:54, ending with a pace of 5:03. He will be competing next at states individually.

However, despite the strong performance for both the boys and girls team, it was not without its challenges.

“The boys team faced many adversities such as injuries, and although we did not qualify for states, I’m still very proud to be part of this amazing team,” Kim said.

Good luck to cross country at Clovis next week!
