Girls’ cross-country places 12th at Stanford Invitational

The Palo Alto High School girls’ cross-country team placed 12th out of 29 teams in the Stanford Invitational meet this Saturday at the Stanford golf course.

Katie Foug (‘15) placed first for the Lady Vikes and finished 24th overall, finishing the five kilometer race in 19:29. Although it is still early in the season, Foug’s fast races are catching the eyes of her teammates.

“I’m so impressed with all of our underclassmen, Katie Foug especially, and Sophie Robinson (‘15),” teammate Torie Nielsen (‘12), who did not run in Saturday’s race, said.

Foug attributed her race today to a better finish than she had in the last meet.

“Compared to the Lowell meet, I felt like I was running better,” she said. “I got more of a kick at the end.”

Chika Kasahara (‘13), Audrey DeBruine (‘14), Robinson and Nora Rosati (‘13) rounded out the top five for Paly. While Kasahara is often the first place finisher for Paly, she was not upset at the

end of the race to have lost to Foug.

“I did a lot better than last year, and I think my team did amazing,” Kasahara said.

Coach Paul Jones was pleased with the team’s performance in a meet that he calls “really tough.”

“This is the best team finish that we’ve had in probably the last five or six years,” Jones said.

The Lady Vikes look to carry their momentum into the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League (SCVAL) Center Meet on Tuesday in Santa Clara’s Central Park. All of the runners that ran today, however, will get the meet off.
