Baseball wins big, destroying Homestead 15-7
March 23, 2016
Paly’s Baseball team won an impressive game, stomping the Homestead by a final score of 15-7.
Paly’s offense was busy early as Ben Cleasby (‘17) scored a run on a ground ball hit by Max Jung-Goldberg (‘18).
Again Paly scored two more in the second inning after both Riley Schoeben (‘16) and Cleasby were hit by pitches while the bases were loaded.
As Paly continued to score, Justin Hull (‘16) was dominating the Homestead hitters early. Hull was shutting down the Mustang offense allowing just 1 hits in the first five innings.
Meanwhile, Paly had already scored 3 more runs before exploding for 6 more in the bottom of the fifth. Paly’s offensive fifth inning was long and Homestead’s pitching staff had clearly run out of gas. Hits came from Owen Plambeck (‘16), Angus Stayte (‘17), Ethan Stern (‘17), Alec Olmstead (‘16), as well as Hull, Cleasby, and Jung-Goldberg.
Homestead would end up scoring 6 runs in the top of the sixth, however the game was still well in control for the Vikings. Paly would cruise to a 15-7 victory.
“Same mentality every time,” Hull explained. “Just go out and try to attack hitters … we got a pretty good defense behind us so just attack the zone and see what happens.”
“I think when we’re hunting fastball,” Jung-Goldberg said. “When we’re hitting pitches early in the count that makes a huge difference especially when we’re driving balls and barrelling them, that’s a huge impact on us.”
The Vikings will look to continue their winning ways on Friday, March 25, this time at Homestead at 4:00.
