On Wednesday afternoon, the boys tennis team held onto a huge early lead to beat Cupertino by a score of 4-3. Yesterday the Vikings got their first league win of the season after losing to Gunn in their first game.

Early in the game against Cupertino, the Vikings quickly amassed a 3-0 lead over the Pioneers. This lead was behind singles wins from Aaron Li (‘20) and Antony Georgiadis (‘19) as well as a doubles win from Nathan Ellisen (‘19) and Vijay Sharma (‘18). Li played a phenomenal game, not losing a single game.

“I was very nervous going into the match, but I know what I’m capable of on the court, and it really showed today during my match,” Li said.

Shortly after this strong start from the Vikings, the Pioneers slowly creeped back into the game. Close losses from Hunter North (‘18), Adam Love (‘19), and the doubles team of Samuel Xing (‘20) and Andrew Shei (‘18). With these wins from Cupertino, the match count was tied at 3 going into the last match of the game.

Bryant Chen (‘19) and Johnny Loftus (‘18) represented the Vikings in the last match of the day, a doubles match. In a nail biter, the match was decided in the tiebreaker of the third set, which Paly won 10-4. This secured the win over Cupertino and gave the Vikings a new hope for a great season to come.

“Looking forward into the season, I really think we can beat most other teams this year, as our team is very solid,” Li said, “We plan on making CCS and hopefully we’ll do well.”
