The Paly Girls swim team capped off their season at CIF State Championships, which took place at Clovis West High School last weekend. The meet was extremely competitive, but the Paly girls managed to score significantly more than the group they sent last year. Sophomore Llew Ladomirak swam a solid individual 200 freestyle, however the relays were where the entire group stood out the most.

“We weren’t supposed to make finals in the 200 free relay, but everyone stepped up and swam super fast in prelims,” Ladomirak (’25) said. “We ended up swimming even faster in finals.”

The Paly girls were initially seeded outside the top 16 places but jumped to fourteenth after prelims, then jumped again up to eleventh in the final, scoring points that they were unable to score last year. With this outstanding underdog swim, the relay of Katie Spitzer (’25), Lucy Zhao (’25), Milla Cleveringa (’23), and Ladomirak delivered one of the most impressive relay performances in recent memory.

“We were all super excited and proud of ourselves,” Ladomirak said. “It just proved to us that we deserved to be there.”

As the season comes to a close, it is clear that the Paly girls swim team has a very bright future. Three of the four members of this State finals-qualifying relay are sophomores, assuring that they will be back at States next year with even higher expectations than they already met with the current group.
