On Thursday night, Paly Boys Volleyball defeated cross-town rivals, Gunn 3-1, in a gentleman’s sweep.
The Vikings start the 2023 season strong with a win, setting their record to 1-0.
Gunn started the night with a set one win, 25-23.
“It was our first game of the season, so of course many of our players let the nerves get to us,” Calvin Wong (‘23) said. “We weren’t passing super well in the first set, and communication was off.”
The moment the second set started, the energy changed.
“Going into the second set, I told my team to just have fun and not put pressure on themselves as it will make them play worse,” Wong said. “We came out swinging with a lot of energy, and that is what ultimately gave us the upper hand.”
During the second set, Paly went on a huge run winning the set 25-9.
Paly would go on to dominate the titans as they never looked back. They won the next two sets with a score of 25-11 in both.
The Viking’s next match comes against Menlo-Atherton on February 27 at home.
