Palo Alto girls’ soccer prevailed against crosstown rival Gunn, 4-0, led by two goals from Reilly Filter (‘17).  The game, was their second to last preseason game, which came after a game against Menlo Atherton High School.

“We did not play as well tonight as we did against MA (Menlo Atherton),” Head Coach Kurt Devlin said. ” Our performance was a little bit lackluster and a little bit individualistic.”

The game began with the Vikings dominating the field.  Eventually, with eleven minutes in the half, Filter striked a goal off a bounce to take the lead.

After the goal from Filter, the Vikings did not score until midway through the second half.  The next goal came from a corner kick by Bella Bonomi (‘18), and was headed in by Jacey Pederson (‘16).

“I thought we started the game off a little slow, but we ended the game a little better,” Pederson said. “The second half was a lot stronger than the first half.  We did a really good job of creating chances but we need to work on converting them.”

Gunn had trouble advancing the ball up the field most of the game, due to a strong Viking attack and a very good Viking defense.

With less than nine minutes left in the match, Filter scored her second goal of the night off of a cross from Lauola Amanoni (‘17).

The Vikings then capped off the night by a well placed goal by Ally Scheve (‘18).

“The team wasn’t satisfied with the score at halftime and everyone came out really hard second half,” Filter said. “Luckily it all came together and we were able to score three more.”

The team will go on to play San Benito, Saturday, December 12th, at 12 p.m., at Palo Alto High School.
