The Paly girls’ soccer team defeated Los Gatos 2-1 on Friday behind goals from Claire Moley (‘19) and Ally Scheve (‘18).

For the girls’ soccer team, Friday’s game marked the first meeting of two against Los Gatos. Although they had yet to play them this season, the girl’s were sure that they would get the win.

“I think we’re going to win today because we have a very strong team this year and our upperclassmen are doing a great job of leading us through the season,” Summer Daniel (‘20) said.

She was right as team captain Scheve delivered what turned out to be the game winning goal. It was late in the first half and Scheve stepped up to take a freekick. The kick went right around the defensive wall with great precision to a spot where the keeper couldn’t reach it.

Moley also had a terrific game as she bagged the first goal for the Vikings early in the first half.

Los Gatos put up a fight in the second half scoring one goal but it was not enough to beat the determined Vikings.

The win was the fourth in league play for the Vikings. The girls’ are yet to lose in league play this and have an overall record of 8-2-1. The girls’ will face undefeated Mountain View on Wednesday, January 24th in a battle of the top two teams in their league.

“We know they are a tough team and it is going to be hard to beat them, but I think if we play as a unit and make smart plays we can come up with the upset,” Leila Khan (‘20) said.
