Girls Basketball squeezes out 35-33 win over Saratoga

Girls basketball beat Saratoga 35-33 in a tightly contested match on Tuesday, Jan 14.

The match began in Paly’s favor, as the Vikings immediately snagged the lead, ending the first quarter with eight points, trumping Saratoga’s two.

However, the game continued to swing both ways, with Saratoga pulling ahead by the second half, leading Paly 17-15. Saratoga maintained their lead as Paly entered the fourth quarter down by 4.

With 2 minutes left in the game, Paly was down by 8 points.

The energy quickly picked up as a result of Carly Martin’s (‘21) leadership on both offense and defense. Paly managed to tie the game with just 30 seconds left after a couple of successful three-point attempts as well as a layup.

Throughout the last few minutes of the game, Paly’s bench set the tone in energy, and the team began to work together more cohesively and fight for one another on the court.

In Saratoga’s last chance for possession, Martin’s tight defense under Paly’s basket led to a turnover, landing the ball in the hands of Delaney Ball (‘23) who was able to score a layup to take the lead.

With that, the Vikings won the game by a two point margin of 35-33.

Next up, Paly will face off against Wilcox at 6:15 on Friday, Jan 17, as well as compete in a non-conference match against Gunn High School at 6:30 on Saturday, Jan 18. Both games are away.
