The Paly varsity boys soccer team is off to a rocky start to their season, losing 2-0 to Los Altos at home. This was the debut game for the team’s new coach, Rusty Millard, who replaced previous boys varsity coach Donald Briggs.

The Vikings were unable to capitalize on their extensive off-season work, especially in the early minutes of the game. First-year varsity player Jaron Majors (‘22) is one of many players on the current roster that had no varsity experience prior to tonight’s game. He believes that his team’s slow start to the game cost them in the end.

“We made a few mistakes and they scored two goals early,” Majors said, “But other than that it was an evenly matched game.”

Despite the loss, Majors remains hopeful for the future, after the team displayed a far more impressive performance in the second half of the game compared to the first.

“We’re looking forward to a good season,” he said.

The Vikings will hope to even their league record to 1-1 when they take on cross-town rivals, Gunn High School, in what should be an important away game on Thursday, March 18.
