Girls Soccer Game Against Gunn Ends in Tie

The Paly Varsity Girls soccer team played Gunn at home on Friday, ending in a tied score of 1-1.

Both teams were playing at an intense level, firing up the competition between the two Palo Alto rivals. In the first half of the game, Gunn got a lead by scoring early on.

After halftime, things started to look up for Paly when a foul was called against Gunn near their goal. Mariana Kessinger (‘22) took the free-kick and placed it perfectly for Jennifer Solgaard (‘21) to score a goal for the Vikings.

“The goal against us was unfortunate,” Kessinger said. “It was a game we definitely could have won if we had cleaned up our defense.”

Although this game ended in a tie, players have high hopes for the remainder of the season.

“It’s early in the season and most of us haven’t played together much, so hopefully after a few games we will adjust and play together better,” Kessinger said.
