After a mediocre season last year, the Paly boys basketball team looks to get back to their winning culture this season as the seniors look to take more wins this year. They look to redeem themselves after an 11-9 record last season.

“It’s my first year playing varsity basketball and I really want to get a good start and win the league this year,” Junior Sean Hogan said.

In head coach Jeff Lamere’s third season at Paly, the team is led by senior captains Sebastian Chancellor and Matt Corrigan who look to lead the team to victories. These are well-seasoned veterans with the skills to back them up.

“We have great captains and I believe that they can lead the team to wins,” Jackson Martin (‘23) said.

This year, Paly does not shy away from any competition, playing some of the best teams in the bay including the Menlo-Atherton Bears, Mountain View Spartans, and the Archbishop Mitty Monarchs, who were last year’s CCS open division champions.

“I think that when it comes to Mountain View and Menlo-Atherton and Mitty, those teams of high caliber players, it all comes down to who wants it more,” Chancellor said. I think that we’re a talented team. Those teams are talented as well. I think it’s going to come down to those 50-50 plays, who gets more loose balls, and who wants those games more in general.”

They don’t look to stop there. Boys basketball has experience and firepower throughout the entire lineup. Guards Ryan Lykken (‘22), Max Bonnstetter (‘22), and Addison Lee (‘22) can all catch fire from the backcourt, while their frontcourt has its own plethora of threats as well with forwards Nikhil Majeti (‘22) and Lucas Black (‘22).

“In order to be successful, we’re just gonna have to come up with a winning mentality and look to be aggressive from the get-go,” Chancellor said.

The boys look to kick their season off with a win against Overfelt.
