After an overwhelming season filled with many wins the Paly boy’s soccer team ends on top winning the league champion title. The team prepared for the season by having rigorous training hours and fitness. Training with intensity and focus not only prepared the team for relentless games but helped prevent serious injuries.

“I really wanted to instill […] our team’s fitness,” senior captain Jonas Pao said. “Last season we realized how important it is to get fitness up in the preseason so people don’t get injured going into our rigorous season.”

In addition to winning the league, nine of the players were nominated for the SCVAL all-league awards. Dinu Deshpande won Co-League MVP, Zachary Cooper, and Jonas Pao both won Co-Defensive MVP, Hunter Aaronson, Nadav Sternheim, and Richie Ogawa, won all-league 1st team and Joshua Ramos, Rhys Foote, and Isaac Kirby won all-league 2nd Team.

“It feels amazing to have nine players get league awards,” senior Rhys Foote said. “It’s nice to see my teammates get the credit they deserve for the work that was put in day in and day out.”

In the beginning of the season, Paly did not have a place on the top 25 ranking of high school boys’ soccer teams that Prep2prep released. But since then, they won the majority of the games against the other six teams in their league who were initially ranked above them. The team’s efforts have been evident in their excellence and hard work, proving that they deserve more recognition than they received.

“I am most proud of the team’s ability to persevere in league play as we had many downs due to injuries,” senior captain Zachary Cooper said. “But no matter how bad it got, we always bounced back.”

After an amazing league, the team was seeded eighth in CCS and unfortunately lost to the number one ranked team in CCS, Alisal High School. They ended with a hard fight losing 1-0 in the quarter-finals of Open Division CCS. In the end, the team wanted to thank their loyal fans and coaches for supporting their season. The overall positive atmosphere from supporters at each of the games energized the players and contributed to such a competitive season. Looking forward to next season as members of the team will take on new leadership positions as they say their goodbyes to their beloved seniors.
