The varsity girls’ soccer team was defeated by Monta Vista, in a close game on Wed. 25 on the Viking’s home turf 2-3.
The Vikings hustled throughout the whole first half but struggled to score despite multiple attempts. Sunny Lyu (‘14) almost scored a goal in the last remaining minutes of the first half but hit the goal post and was promptly saved by the Monta Vista goal keeper.
“Our team put everything out there, we had the balls hitting off the cross bar, multiple shots that were inches away from going in,” midfield Lily Seedman (‘12) said. “It was an awful feeling at the end of the game to go home with a loss when everybody out here watching, knew we were the better team.
The second half of the game however, marked the climax of the game and heightened the intensity of the game. Within the last five minutes of the second half, Monta Vista scored on an open Paly goal.
“It was really intense and we just let our focus down,” forward Jordan Smith (‘13) said. “Everytime we scored, we forgot about our defense so they would score right away and we started to lose focus.”
Paly brought back the heat promptly after by scoring on a free kick, from midfielder Mayssen Labiddi (‘12). Monta Vista fired back with another goal scored right after, which was matched with another goal, this time by Lyu.
“The game was really intense especially in the first half and the last five minutes there were like five goals back to back and after every single goal each team went crazy,” defensive player Terra Jones (‘12) said.
Monta Vista scored yet again to the dismay of the Viking ladies but did not deter the Lady Vikes, who continued to attack.
I’m proud of us, we did everything that we could,” Seedman said.
Unfortunately for the Lady Vikes, they were unsuccessful in redeeming themselves and making a comeback as a result of running out of time, just as offense was getting the ball back in to the box.
