The stands were completely full on senior night as the Lady Vikes took to the pool to take on league rival Los Altos High School. Senior Goaltender Abby Bromberg (’13) and attacker Martine LeClerc (’13) had stand out games to lead the Vikings to an emotional victory.
The game started out fast paced. Los Altos came out strong scoring from long range 30 seconds into the game. Tara Lawrence (’14) came right back in transition and put the Lady Vikes on the board with a goal. Los Altos tacked on two more goals while the Lady Vikes struggled not to turn the ball over. Emma Wolfe (’14) scored a behind the back goal to cut the Los Altos lead to one.
Bromberg continued to produce key saves for the Lady Vikes throughout the game. However, the Eagles long range attack was effective as they were able to sneak two more shots past Bromberg and into the net.
LeClerc led the charge at the end of the half scoring a lob shot from the side of the net. Next possession Leclerc controlled the fast break again and threw a lead pass to Tess Van Hulsen (’15) who shot the ball off the cross bar. Katie Francis (’16) got the rebound and put the ball in the back of the net to give the Lady Vikes a 5-4 advantage at the half.
The scoring slowed down as the defense began to pick up immensely in the second half. Lawrence had three early steals giving the Lady Vikes many opportunities to score but the Eagle’s goal keeper would not let anything go by. Out of a Los Altos timeout the Eagles scored from long range again to tie the game 5-5. Van Hulsen came right back on the fast break to score with 38 seconds remaining in the 3rd quarter.
Wolfe scored another behind the back goal to start the 4th quarter. Bromberg continued to make save after save to hold the Vikings the lead. Bromberg and the Lady Vikes defense was too strong for the Eagles to come back and the Vikings secured a 7-5 victory.
After the game Coach Spencer Dornin expressed his thoughts about his teams win.
“We had a shaky first quarter, Â besides that we played great defense and really stayed positive and stayed together as a group.”
LeClerc expressed her emotions after her senior night game was over.
“I’m going to miss my team and coach Spencer who has been really nice to us,” LeClerc  said. “Having a lot of friends, being able to count on them and I’m especially going to miss this pool.”
The Lady Vikes will take on cross town rival Gunn this Thursday at 6:45 to wrap up the regular season.
