The girls’ water polo added another win to their now 6-7 record following their defeat over Mountain View, 7-4.

The Vikings came out strong in the first three minutes with a quick goal by Gigi Rojahn (‘16).

Olivia Scola (‘15) was ejected after a foul against a Mountain View attacker in front of the Paly goal. Katie Francis (‘16) hit the post, just barely missing the Spartans goal leaving the score 1-0. Rojahn kept the Paly offense strong by scoring another goal with only a minute and thirty seconds left in the first quarter. But the Spartans caught up quickly scoring two goals and tying the game 2-2.

The second quarter began with Paly swiftly winning the ball and heading straight into the attacking end. But Mountain View counter attacked and won the ball off a Paly turnover. Rojahn fought for the ball and brought Paly back on attack but hit the post, causing the ball to go out of bounds. Francis ended the quarter with a drive to the Mountain View goal and placing a shot into the corner putting Paly in the lead. Mountain Views shots on goal were no match for Joanna Falla (‘17). Falla saved three shots in the second quarter, helping Paly maintain their lead going into the third quarter.

The Vikings started off the third quarter strong with a five meter penalty shot made by Rojahn. This followed by a shot and goal from Scola off a pass from Francis. Paly had two missed shots after this from Rojahn and Scola. With less than a minute left in the quarter Mountain View scores making the score 6-4 going into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter Mountain View started off strong with a win of the draw. But Paly returned this with a goal by Rojhan. Paly struggled to put the ball in the net with two missed shots from Alina Drebin (‘16) and Scola. The final score of the game was 7-4 Paly.

Rojahn expressed her feelings towards the game and team effort.

“I think we played really well.” Rojahn said, “We had a lot of really good counter attacks and shots and over all played as a team tonight”

Coach Aileen Delaney also supports Rojahn’s ideas.

“I thought it was a good game for us. “ Delaney said, “I thought in particular what stood out for me was the energy that we came out with in the second half and that third quarter really propelled us which was nice it was a good team effort.”

The Vikings next game is Tuesday, October 28th against the Los Altos Eagles.
