Volleyball defeats Mountain View 3-2

The Lady Vikes defeated Mountain View on Tuesday 3-2. This was their first league game of the season.
The Vikings started the game off strong, winning the first three points of the first set. This was followed by back and forth point scoring from both Paly and Mountain View. The Vikings won the first set 25-17, with Katie Passarello (‘17) serving strong for the Vikings.
The second set was dominated by the Vikings, with Chelsea Fan (‘19) leading the team in kills. The Vikings won the set 25-18.
The third set was dominated by Mountain View as they responded to their two set deficit. The Spartans came out strong putting up seven points against the Vikings. The Vikings lost the set 25-20.
The Vikings started out the fourth set strong but soon fell to the spartans during the middle of the set. The Spartans carried over their energy into the fourth set and came out strong over the Vikings. The Vikings lost the set 25-21.
The Vikings started the fifth set strong by putting nine points on the board, with Fan leading the team in kills during this set. The Vikings pulled ahead to win the fifth set 15-8, winning the game.
Passarello comments on the team’s performance during the game.
“I thought we played well we had a little slip up in the middle sets but we did a good job finishing the game off strong” Passarello said.
Captain Claire Krugler (‘16) builds off of her teammate and expresses her emotions about the game.
“I think we started out really strong and we did a really good job connecting as a team. We did let a little bit of our emotions get to us because the other team’s coach is our coach, but we came back strong in the fifth set and we really showed everyone what Paly volleyball is,” Krugler said.
Head coach Jereka Wilson was pleased with her team’s performance.
“I think they played really well, I think it was a tough match since their were a lot of emotions and ties with regarding the other coach, but it was awesome to see them come back during the fifth set,” Wilson adds.
The Vikings will play next in the Presentation tournament.
