In the first round of the Central Coast Section (CCS) tournament, the Paly volleyball team beat Sequoia High School in three sets.

The first set was neck and neck between the two squads at 3-3. The tie was broken by the Vikings who went on a 9-2 streak. A Fiona Green ace from service lead to a 25-14 victory in the first set.

“I thought that we all played really well and had good services and we played consistently throughout the match.” Fiona Green (‘17) said.

The start second set was also very close. The teams were tied at 7-7 until outside hitter Chelsea Fan (18) broke the stalemate with two straight kills giving Paly a 9-7 lead. The Vikings kept rolling marked by three aces in a row by outside hitter Katie Passarello (‘17) which gave them a 22-11 lead. The Vikings won the second set with a hard hit ball by senior Claire Denis (‘16) at a score of 25-14.

“I thought we played really well, we were all really energetic.” Fan said.

The third set was back and forth until a couple of Sequoia mistakes gave the Vikings a 7-4 lead. Paly continued their success while getting an 18-8 lead marked by a great hit by Green. Sequoia then went on slight comeback, making the score 23-17 in favor of Paly. Sophomore Isabelle Marcus (‘18) would deny the comeback with a great hit making the score 24-17. The Vikings won the set and the game with a Dennis block.

The Vikings success could be seen by their preparation for the game according to head coach Jekara Wilson.

“I think we did a good job scouting them. We had a thorough scouting report yesterday. I think we did a really good job shutting down number 3. It was their big hitter. We adjusted our block a little bit. I think it really help us out a lot.” Wilson said.

Next up, the Vikings face the San Benito Haybalers on Saturday November 14 at 7:00 p.m at San Benito.
