September 20, 2016
Paly’s Girls Water Polo team won big at home against Cupertino with a final score of 16-6.
Paly came out and set the tone early against and jumped out to an early lead. First quarter goals from Sabrina Hall (‘18) and Chesnie Cheung (‘20) put the team out in front and they never looked back.
The Vikings lead 5-1 at the end of the first quarter and lead for the rest of the game.
“We have had trouble with coming out not very strong in the first half and digging ourselves into a hole and then having to get out of it in the second half,” Talia Stanley (‘18) said after the game. “I think this game we just came out really strong from the beginning.”
The Vikings continued to dominate in the second quarter and increased their lead with a halftime score of 8-3.
It became evident early on that Cupertino was struggling defensively, so with good awareness and passing the Vikings were taking full advantage.
Goals from Stanley, Haley Chalmers (‘17), Sophie Frick (‘18) and Alyssa Ibuyan (‘18) helped carry the Vikings through the second half.
With good defense Paly easily cruised to the 16-6 victory.
“We need to keep this momentum,” Stanley said. “We have a lot of good momentum right now we need to keep it going.”
