Girls Tennis loses to Cupertino 4-3

Girls Tennis was narrowly defeated by Cupertino 4-3, despite a hard fought performance from Avanika Narayan (โ€˜17).  After an undefeated start in league play, and an overall record of 10-2, the team was unable to keep their win streak alive.

It should be noted, however, that Cupertino is from the league above Paly and had an 8-2 record going into this matchup.

With expectations low for the match, Paly fared very well in the doubles arena.  Duo Brinson Elliot (โ€˜17) and Mayerly Short (โ€˜17), as well as, Alice Zhang (โ€˜17) and her partner Emma Cockerell (โ€˜18), won their matches.  The third Paly win came from senior Narayan, who overcame a frustrating second set.

โ€œWe played sensational. If you had asked me at the beginning would we have a 3-4 match against them I would have said I donโ€™t think soโ€, said Head Coach Andy Harader, โ€œBut the girls played really well, Iโ€™m really happy particularly with Avanika, rising above her temper tantrum and coming out of it and winning it.โ€

The team looks to bounce back next week against Los Altos.
