The Palo Alto boys varsity water polo team takes down Homestead 16-8
October 19, 2016
The Vikings started the game out strong on both offense and defense with a score of 5-0 in the first quarter.
“We were good at executing drives, which lead to good opportunities on offense,” Tommy Smale (‘17) said.
The first half of the game remained consistent with their defense, which helped the team secure the lead. Goalie Benjamin Rapperport (‘17), had many tough saves which was a huge factor in the team’s victory.
Going into the third quarter with confidence and a lead of 8-2, the Vikings began to slip up. There were over three ejections against the Paly boys, and many missed shots on goal. But, even in a slump, they pulled through and scored four goals.
“We have to learn to adapt to what the refs are calling so we don’t get as many ejections” Rapperport said, “awareness of what fouls they’re calling will help us know what we can do, and what we can’t”.
Despite the amount of ejections in the third quarter, the Vikings focused on defense again and blocked Homesteads opportunities on goal. Also, Alex Beaudry (‘17) helped the team strengthen their lead by scoring four goals in the final quarter.
