The Girls’ water polo team was victorious over the Homestead Mustangs earlier tonight in a thrilling match for the Vikings.

Before the game, there was a delightful ceremony honoring the seniors Talia Stanley, Sophie Frick, Hollie Chiao, Sabrina Hall, Alique Papas, Alyssa Ibuyan, Mia Bloom and Fayann Han.

Coach Doug Stotland spoke many kind words about all of the outstanding senior players on the team, making it a memorable ceremony for all. The girls received flowers, a bag and a poster of themselves to commemorate the big game.

The Vikes were very efficient with their goals, scoring 4 goals in the first 3 minutes of the third quarter of the game. All four of which were scored by co-captain/seniors Stanley, Frick and Hall.

“In my opinion, I think that was the best game that we have ever played as a team” said Esme Stotland (19’).

A few of the team captains completely agreed with Stotland, especially when contrasting this game to their last match against Homestead earlier in league.

“I think we played really well and it was awesome to see our improvement from the first time we played Homestead,” said Frick. “I think everyone was playing hard and it was a  great last home game. The ceremony was really nice and it was a great way to start our last home game.”

Fellow captain Stanley was equally pleased with the team’s performance.

“I think it was a great game and I think we had a ton of fun!” said Stanley. “Our defense improved a lot from the first time we played them and our shooting was better. It was a nice way to finish our last home game, especially for us seniors.”

Unfortunately, the Lady Vikes now have no remaining home games. The team hopes to play well for their next away game in order to qualify for CCS.
