Paly Girls Water Polo Beats Lynbrook 11-3

The Paly girls water polo team beat Lynbrook at home yesterday afternoon, winning 11-3 in their league home opener.

“It was great to see us all work together for a really dominate victory,” senior captain Samantha Lee said.

And dominating it was. Lee scored six goals, and junior outside shooter Eliza Gaither also had a strong presence in the water. She scored a skillful goal in the third quarter.

“We had about ten seconds left on the shot clock and I had bunch of open water in front of me,” Gaither said. “I took the shot hoping it would go in, and was happy to see it went in to the lower left corner, just where I wanted.”

Freshman Fallon Porter also scored twice. Both were driving goals. This means she was on the perimeter and then swam towards the middle, past the defender, and scored.

Gaither notes that although she enjoys the games, she feels worried before them.

“I get pretty anxious before the game because we are nervous to see how the other team plays,” Gaither said. “But right when you get in the water, you get rid of those nerves.”

Lee said that the whole team will take this as a motivator for their next game, against their cross-rival, who won Norcal Division 3 last season.

“We were able to work on our plays as we prepare to play Gunn thursday,” Lee said. “It was a nice confidence builder.”
