The Paly football team fell to Santa Teresa 30-20 at Palo Alto High School on Friday night in the CIF Regional Championships, ending their CCS winning season.
The game was tight throughout, with Paly holding a 13-10 lead going into halftime.
In his last game as a Viking, Jack Newman (โ€˜23) starred, making impressive plays on each side of the ball, both as a running back and a linebacker.
The second half was tight as well, with multiple lead changes, but the Vikings fell just short.
โ€œWe were definitely capable of beating that team,โ€ wide receiver Jason Auzenne (โ€™24) said. โ€œWe had unnecessary penalties that kept us from winning the game,โ€ Auzenne said.
Paly looks back on their successful season, after overcoming a disappointing 1-6 start.
โ€œOur team is proud of our season,โ€ safety Rocky Leitch (โ€˜23) said. โ€œAfter going 1-6 in the first seven games we never wouldโ€™ve expected winning a CCS championship,โ€ Leitch said.
With a new coach, things started off rough for Paly, but the team rallied around the culture that coach David Degeronimo established over the course of the season.
โ€œAs the season progressed, we started to come together as a team and were able to build a stronger connection with the coaches,โ€ Leitch said.
