The Paly field hockey team played Los Altos on Wednesday. It was their first scrimmage of the new season and everybody was super excited to be back out on the field.
The scrimmage ended in a tie of 0-0 which reflects the competitive nature and determination that both teams brought to the field.
“I think our team put in a lot of effort and worked really well together, especially for our first scrimmage of the season,” junior Abby Wolf said.
The game started off rocky, but the team was able to adjust and redesign their efforts in order to keep Los Altos from scoring. “We lacked good communication and spacing in the first quarter, but we made adjustments in the second quarter to create more attempts on goal,” sophomore Charlotte Barclay said.
Another challenge this game brought on was the intense heat. Even though it was over 90 degrees, the girls were not discouraged. “I am really proud of the team because despite the hot and smoky weather, we pushed through and had fun,” senior Liz Gulman said.
The team will carry their optimism through the next few months and hopefully come out with a win against Los Altos in their next match. “I can’t wait to see us improve throughout the season,” junior Polina van Hulsen said. “This first scrimmage was a great way for us to see our strengths and what we need to improve on as the season moves forward!”
The team plans on focusing on good communication and honing in this skill in their upcoming practices and games.
The players have already noticed the overwhelming improvements of the team’s communication and tactical skills in the short time the season has been in session. The team and fans are confident that this will be another great year of field hockey.
