Paly boys waterpolo defeated Gilroy 13-6 in the quarterfinals of CCS.
Coming in, the game was not a clear cut win for the Vikings.
“We thought the game was going to be really hard. It’s CCS so anything can happen,” Roan Haney (’25) said.
Paly came out strong, with Haney providing three goal contributions in the first two minutes (one goal and two assists). The onslaught did not stop there, and by the end of the second quarter Paly was leading 8-0.
Coming out of the half Coach Bob made adjustments, rotating out the starters for the bench. An uneventful second half finished with a 13-6 Viking win. Will Backstrand (’25) was top scorer with six goals.
“I think our preparation was very important,” Brian Stewart (’24) said. “Honestly not too much to work on just looking towards the next game.”
Paly takes on Los Altos this coming Wednesday in the CCS semifinal.
“It will definitely be a tough game but having beaten them the last three times we’re hoping to get the fourth.”
